He can lift and weld girders faster than a 1,000 workers. Oh, but the materials cost money? "Got some coal? Oh, one second… Here's some diamonds for ya. Anything else I can do?" Superman is a naive, self righteous, puppet of the state, but it would be extremely out of character for him to unnecessarily endanger human life and not clean up the mess afterward.
