I do not understand what it is they tried to do. The original Lara Croft is mostly a male teenager’s wet dream, and the previous movies did well on that basis, with Ms. Jolie wearing abundant padding to measure up. In this release we get, Ms. Vikander who, while not unpleasant to the eye, is probable not high on most male teenager’s wet dreams candidates. It will be interesting to find out what this segment of the population, to whom the series is addressed, makes of this release.

From what I’ve seen and read so far, I’m not entirely sure how this movie stays true to the lore as you say. An important part of the Himiko story had to do with a character called Sam and as far as I understand it, she’s not even in the movie. But she was a direct descendant of Himiko which was rather a point of significance. It seems to me that this movie is a very different take on the current Lara. Let’s just say I prefer the video game.

you know she likely took the gig before a script was even written. isn’t that how it usually goes circa now with potential big blockbusters/super hero stuff etc. ?
