The \”domestic discord\” is with Portia\’s longtime live-in partner, a Princeton English professor whose name is Mark, not David. And in case anyone infers incorrectly, the \”relationship\” with 17-year-old Jeremiah is in no way romantic or sexual. There is a love story for Portia in the book, but it is with neither Mark nor Jeremiah (it is an age-appropriate relationship with a former college acquaintance named John). And David is actually the professor husband of a friend of Portia\’s, has a very small role in the book, and will probably have a nonexistent role in the film.
