R in Canada means nobody under 18 - PERIOD - even with an adult.

Adult Accompaniment rating is the 14A rating.

Most USA R-Rated material gets a 14A here, though stuff does sometimes receive the R (18A).

Canadian here. 14A films are almost always R-rated.

Also, There Will Be Blood was actually just regular ol' PG in Canada (in the Maritimes, at least).

There Will Be Blood was R in the U.S. and PG-13 in Canada.

In Quebec it was probably F for Family.

I think the adult accompaniment is now "17A" (17 and up, or have someone over 18 with you).
It's pretty rare for a film in Canadian multi-plexes to have an "R" rating. Lately, anyway.
For instance, Public Enemies, American Gangster, The Departed, those were "R" in the US but 14A or 17A (American Gangster, I think) in Canada.

I'm pretty sure you have it reversed with the rating system.
An "R" rating in the US generally gets a "14A" rating in Canada. We're not as strict with the ratings up here.
