Gere is one of the most consistently underrated actors out there. I love his work; I hadn't heard of this movie and now I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for the great review.

As someone who has been homeless for the last 18 months, I can only describe the experience as being forced to watch as your possessions, accomplishments, and identity are systematically erased. Everyone seems to think that the challenge is limited to finding a place to sleep, the basic economic deprivations. Those are the least of it.

The moments of greatest despair come as you feel the pieces of your old self drift farther and farther out of reach. Relationships that you had for decades, people tethered to you by common history, ambition, and experience, begin to slowly slip away as your lives suddenly take much different trajectories. And as they drift off, they take with them the only remaining record of who you were.

If the review is any indication, it sounds as if the movie has captured a piece of what that is like.
