It sounds like B+ rating aside, the reviewer actually hated the movie and found many undeniable technical flaws with it. I spoke to several people who saw this who advised me to save my money and time on this boring film. Is the reviewer a Chastain stan? "Resplendent career"?

This review is too kind (or is it? hard to tell). Chastain's accent throughout is atrocious.

Wow, what an unfocused, conflicted review! I, too, had trouble with the film but mostly because of the Strindberg origins. The performances by all three actors were terrific (one of Farrell's best) but I do believe Samantha Morton was terrific, perhaps because it was the most understated and grounded. Liv Ullman's directorial style is very clearly influenced by Bergman who, while known for close ups, very often kept an aloof distance with the camera and allowed the actors to perform more naturalistically. And to Lenny and Shandy below, your comments are remarkably ignorant. Lenny, while the subject matter, classical writing style and storytelling are clearly not to your taste, the film as a whole is an accomplished piece of work by masters of their craft and in no way awful. Perhaps an education in filmmaking and classical theatre would help one's enjoyment of it (and I, too, found myself drifting at times) but the film itself is very well made. And Shandy, upon her exit, Jessica Chastain made sure to spend a moment with every fan who waited at the stage exit for her, whether to sign autographs or take selfies with them, even though she was being pressured by her handlers to leave due to time constraints. She even took an extra few moments with one young woman who asked advice for a young actress just starting out. I have attended TIFF for almost 20 years and have never seen an oscar-level actor spend so much time to ensure each fan was individually met.

OMG! this site is Chastain's biggest boot-licker! LOL of course the review would say that she was great and so was the film, but the truth is quite different!
This film is awful! Lots of people fell asleep at the theater and there's no chemistry between Chastain and Colin Farrell and her accent is awful by the way. The best thing in the film is Samantha Morton - too bad that she is not "the overrated actress of the moment and critics' darling" like Chastain is, otherwise her performance would be recognized! As usual, Chastain is overshadowed by her supporting cast but gets all the praises.

'Chastainassance'? Really? Isn't a renaissance supposed to mean a return to form or greatness? She's hasn't waned in popularity or done a career-off-track bad role yet, so why is it an 'assance'? This whole thing has gone a little far don't you think? You guys were predicting an Adam Sandlerassance a few days ago and then it seems like both his festival movies underwhelmed. What's next? The Spielbergassamce when he releases his next movie? This movie soundsreally good tho also
