The movie may indeed suck, but this review is still terrible. The writer doesn\’t agree with the premise and characters actions, so that makes the film bad? So what if he had enough money that he can do all the soul searching shit. That\’s the movie! If u wanna see a movie about a poor person with kids who\’s wife dies, that\’s another movie.

This review must be a joke. When I see a review that does not on even mention the narrational choices, sound editing and the music in a Jean-Marc Vallée film, then I do not take it seriously.
This can be a review of the story or the script. But this is definitely not a review of the film.

I\’d add after focusing on the negative that again for some reason it\’s a big screen problem that the small screen has mastered, aside from the obvious OITNB or David Simon\’s work, check out Curb your enthusiasm, Transparent, Broad City, The Good Wife, even Sex and the City back in the day, all shows that focus on white lives in a modern world.

Just checked out the trailer for this and it feels hackneyed. I should state, however, that the everywordspoken tumblr has completely transformed the way I judge modern movies. I understand that not all stories can focus or should include minorities in major roles, but for too long and far too much, race is ignored entirely, it\’s like these folk exist in a make believe world where the hot button topic of our times doesn\’t even exist, which is surely some kind of Narnia. In 2015 it feels like any character remains flat and two dimensional when the question of race is ignored entirely, surely the reality is that in 2015 everybody has some kind of stance on race, and that stance goes a big way towards describing who they are. Of course I haven\’t seen this movie, so please forgive and shout me down if it is more original in that regard than I anticipate, but I have seen a hell of a lot of movies and this one feels like one of those that purports to be authentic and intelligent while existing in a two dimensional, blissfully ignorant, liberal world.

Judging the premise by the characters\’ social class seems logical for 2015. But I can\’t imagine how much of movie history\’s fixation on aristocrats, the top percentile, etc has to be nixed on that criterion alone. Is there really nothing to its execution in the interplay of visuals, directorial style, audio, play on tones etc? Do movie makers just easily fall into any of these 3 camps: Rich people problems; Middle-class ennui; Poverty porn?
