Words and Music: well constructed script with solid acting, particularly Clive Owen in full ragged alcoholic mode. For a character whose life depends on words he can say a great deal with his eyes. The ending needs to be tightened. Sorry guys but it's sloppy cliched. The last ten seconds would have worked far better had Binoche and Owen exchanged reluctant smiles and parted company leaving us wonder if she'll take him back. That works far better than a valentines card from Hallmark complete with sweeping happy shiny. Real it up a tad Mr. Shepisi and it'll do fabulous box office. Don't make us cringe that little bit. And really cut that shared laugh they give us i the last moment. Who knows they may have an alternate ending in the can. This was the first showing anywhere. Everyone was on stage. They should have let them say something, though the showing was quite late and had to get cooking. Otherwise - wonderful ride with characters I cared to watch. Live is killer as is Binoche. Top of their game. - Steve Ilott - Oakville Ontario
