if your issue is with the necessity of this film, then don't watch it. simple as that. and don't want 95% of films coming out because they are not telling a tale that is necessary. they are entertaining people.
if you have an issue with the film then simply ignore it. why waste time debating its necessity when you don't care to see it anyway? you've chosen to hold the original film version on a pedestal, that's fine. move along and allow a new group of people to discover the story to be told. if there is a necessity as you put it in the tale of "let me in", its in the story. and they both are adaptations of a novel, so unless you're willing to fight the fight that people shouldn't watch movies based on novels because they're not necassary since there is a story already existing out there, then please, just don't. because that's what this argument of necessity boils down to.

PL:"So has Matt Reeves grown wings as a director or has he succeeded in merely copying the aesthetics of an already acclaimed and successful film?"
YES that is the whole question!
Aping Alfredson's aesthetic and copying the tone is unacceptable. Either make a new film or don't. You can't just count on the majority of your audience not knowing the original and just dropping the subtitles and changing locations.
What a steal!!! Make your own movie already!
btw: love the site.

To this day one of my all time favorite Netflix user reviews, pointed out to me by a blogging buddy of mine, was of Rec. The user quickly, and angrily, argued Rec was a waste of time. Why? Because it was obviously a remake of the American film Quarantine.

Apparently release year, common sense, and an eager to not appear a moron eluded that user.

Hopefully Let the Right One In, and of course Let Me In, earns a bit more respect from viewers. Though I do have to say the "written by Matt Reeves" - really? Come on. That's almost insulting.
