forgettable???

the film is actually good. keanu doin that character fits. and he does it good even with his frozen face. and the music fits! the grand thing about it: the film is NOT overloaded, filtered, cut into tiny pieces and whatsoever. with smoothness and relaxation it tells a clever story (and I dont mean the coup) and does it bloody right.

and has an even better end.

the end.

Some critics seems to love to Keanu bash, no matter what the film. I've
seen plenty of other "actors" can't
act a lick, but I don't read about
them getting condemned as much as Reeves. Actually, Keanu was superb
in The Gift and some other films as well. He's not as bad an actor as
these wannabes/critics (and where
does one get a degree in movie critiques anyway?)love to point out. People aren't stupid and if
Keanu was as bad as these snobs would have one believe, he wouldn't be so successful, would he? But, then again, the "critics" most likely assume we have no taste ...
Screw 'em.

I saw this film in New York on Monday evening, and found it quite entertaining.

I thought Keanu was spot on as Henry, a man so disillusioned with life that he appears almost robotic when first introduced. Vera Farmiga, as the feisty, take no prisoners, Julie was an absolutely perfect counterpart to Henry. James Caan rounds out the trio as a charming con man who is perfectly content to finish out his days in prison which he refers to as his "home". The chemistry between Caan and Reeves works very well in this film.

I disagree that Keanu is irrelevant as an actor. He has turned in some highly impressive performances - My Own Private Idaho and Feeling Minnesota both come to mind.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, finding the dry humor and subtle romance to be perfectly balanced. I highly recommend seeing it.

I got tired of reading that Keanu Reeves is no de Niro or any other actor. I wonder why critics used to look at him that way only, persistently trying to find his inferiority, faults etc. ? They used to concentrate on it ad nausea. I know it is very difficult to dispose of cliché, mantra about this or that, but can we try once to forget about what we knew for certain (?) and look without prejudice? Without upfront thesis that there must be something wrong because Keanu Reeves is involved? Stop trying to justify this standpoint by using very specific prism, severe and critical (much more than we use to others), while watching him.
When we start watching Keanu Reeve’s film, can we honestly say that our attitude is exactly the same as to any other film/actor?

well, then add another person to the dozen or so who actually saw 44 Inch Chest.
then again, it's all a matter of perception ;)

[...] whatever other excuses you want. Best of luck to you.
oh, why so serious? ;)
So if I don't agree with your opinions I'm dismissed?
well, best of luck to you too :)

what the previous poster said. And let's not forget Reeves' performance in Thumbsucker and A Scanner Darkly and Street Kings- just to name a few more.

And if 44 Inch Chest was a poorly received film, that's not the film's fault ;) Maybe it was just a case of a film/director not meeting the expectations and preconceptions of jaded reviewers ;)

Looking forward to see Henry's Crime. Even if only on DVD.

I disagree, Keanu Reeves can be good on occasion. Don't forget about Sam Raimi's The Gift; that's a truly effective performance on his part. He's also pretty good in My Own Private Idaho, and of course, the Bill and Ted movies. There is evidence of a good actor somewhere in there, it's just rarely tapped.
