Dustin Lance Black belongs to the Josh Olsen Club — Oscar nominated screenwriters who actually wrote shitty screenplays. Fortunately for them, they happened to be directed by master auteurs (Van Sant, Cronenberg) and expertly brought to life by masterful performances (Penn, Mortensen).

"You may need to give it twenty or thirty minutes" — lol. That's so pathetic and arrogant at the same time. He acts like he made a James Benning film.

Did Van Sant stay true to the script that Black wrote? Is there reason to believe that was some type of fluke? Aside from the fact that it wasn't original material.

Are you serious? This seems incredibly harsh but your opinion doesn't seem wavering or on the fence.

I have to see this now. I think everyone had "Oscar" favorites all over this film, I certainly did.

I honestly can't believe its THIS BAD but I hope it does come out so I can find out myself

His screenplay for Milk was basically a rehash of the much better documentary on the subject.

There wasn't much there to suggest he had a great handle on original story telling.
