Got a Tip?

The Russo Brothers Won’t Be Ready To Return To Marvel Until “The End Of The Decade” At The Earliest

With the upcoming release of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and the forthcoming special presentation, “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special,” the Marvel Cinematic Universe is wrapping up its Phase 4 and moving towards the future. And as it stands, Phase 4 doesn’t seem to have built the excitement that previous Phases in the MCU has, especially considering the Phase 3 one-two punch of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” This has many fans reminiscing about the good ol’ days when folks like the Russo Brothers were making Marvel films and wondering when the filmmaking duo might return to the MCU fold. Well, don’t hold your breath.

Speaking to Variety, while talking about their AGBO production company and its expansive slate of projects on the horizon, the Russo Brothers, once again, explained that they have a great relationship with Marvel but working on another MCU film is only a remote possibility that would happen far, far in the future.

“We’re always talking; we’d need to see what would work,” said Joe Russo about reteaming with Marvel Studios. “We won’t be ready to do anything with Marvel until the end of the decade.”

Sorry, fans. That means the wishful thinking that maybe the Russo Brothers will shock the world and return for ‘Secret Wars’ in 2026 is an impossibility. That means the earliest you could see the Russos return to the MCU is probably sometime in Phase 7. Maybe that will be just in time for the eventual “X-Men” reboot?

Regardless, the Russo Brothers have plenty on their schedule already. They’re currently filming a new sci-fi film, “The Electric State,” which is coming to Netflix sometime in 2024. They also have a huge number of TV and film projects they’re serving as producers on. All that to say, it just seems unlikely the duo would leave the world of original filmmaking and producing their own content to work in the studio structure of a Marvel film anytime soon.

But hey, if “The Electric State” is a bust, maybe they will dip their toes into the MCU waters again to drum up some fan interest? We’ll just have to wait and see.
