Machine Gun Preacher was never even given a chance! In Australia, it ran for only a week in limited release in a major cinema chain, which gave it no promotion whatsoever! Every other piece of useless rubbish had a poster but not MGP! Then the session times were ridiculous. People with jobs could only go and see it during the weekends due to it only being screened during the day. I believe the political nature of this film had a lot to do with it's lack of promotion. Kudos to Gerard Butler for having the balls to star in something that rendered the movie studios as cowards. He does deserve an Academy Award for his performance in this film and I am sure anyone who has seen it will agree!

Diane is correct regarding Relativity's mishandling of Machine Gun Preacher.
You realize you just published an article rewarding movies with a budget more than a third-world country's GDP and criticized only mid- to low budget misses. You gotta ask: What's the point of writing this article? If they (or their assistants) happen to read this, all it does is affirm the worst impulses of corporate hacks.

Relativity Media dropped the ball on Machine Gun Preacher. They didn't take the film to the areas where people were clamoring to see it. The "reports" about Sam Childers not having done what he's claimed to have done for the children of South Sudan and northern Uganda were lies spread by a former employee of the Children's Village who'd been fired after he'd been caught stealing thousands of dollars and supplies from the orphanage. Childers and his organization have nothing to hide.
