I agree with almost everything. My one disagreement is regarding Ernst Blofeld. I think the last four Bond films were supposed to be a re-boot of the entire Bond franchise. We learned the origin of the Aston Martin DB5, Moneypenny [gee how I miss Lois Maxwell], and M. SPECTRE shows us the origin of Ernst Blofeld. Of course the premise that two "siblings" could evolve into a super spy and a crime lord seems more suited for a spoof than a legit movie and should go down as the biggest fit of pique in cinema history.
I think Daniel Craig did an admirable job as Bond, but for a re-boot, it seems he was washed up by the third movie and ready for the retirement home. I hated Skyfall and cannot believe it received such good reviews and box office take. I also agree SPECTRE and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation were complementary twins and MIRN was the better of the two. Another thing you did not mention in SPECTRE was how the North African complex was entirely destroyed by a well-fired bullet.

I love what you did with the "location of climax" because I was thinking the same thing. Who wastes their time putting photos up on shooting ranges and spray painting the place? But what\'s worse is he was being take. Into the building in custody, so did they know he would break free and then be able to be subject to their little maze? Cause if not, what was the point?

Even the "C" joke got stepped on.
Maybe if it involves some action or something but no, all it did was follow bond inside, up the elevator, into the room and out the window and over some buildings. Then it cut right as the action was about to start. I even thought to myself, what was the point, especially since the played it up in interviews.

What about the appalling dialogue? Why oh why do blockbusters think they can still get away with uninspired cliche drudgery? Casino Royale actually proved that you can still have the heightened drama of a Bond film with dialogue thats more authentic and believable than the Bonds before it. Some of the dialogue they made Seydoux say was an actual joke, and unfortunately mocked her performance.

The weird trope in recent TV/films where the villain has a serious arts and crafts bent reared its ugly head! And, like the Pale King mention, it reminded me of True Detective, wherein we finally meet the killer and turns out...he makes nice sculptures out of driftwood before he kills little kids...kind of talented too. I think it\'s a case of art departments losing step with the realism of a surrounding universe.

I like how you said Bond just walked into the bad guys compound to get tortured. Which is exactly what he did. Pretty stupid there, but what about the torture itself? So strategically placed needles to the brain can wipe out your memory. Therefore Blofeld told the girl, "he won\'t even know who you are when he dies". Um, isn\'t that less torturous if he thinks these people are strangers rather than the girl he kinda loves who will prolly die right after him? Again, totally pointless. Man this movie is The Dark Knight Rises all over again.

This is why you don\'t let the same director make two films in a row... I hope Sam Mendes doesn\'t direct the next one cause now he\'s made Bond an emotional wreck that seemingly is blind and much dumber. I know he\'s a blunt instrument but atleast Bronson\'s had the mission and the mission alone in mind. Plus a complete waste of Monica Bellucci, she should have been the arch villian. While Christoph Waltz was on autopilot and a pale shade to Javier Bardem.

And what the H was that torture scene? It seemed far more pointless than the ones it was paying homage to, and left us with the question "is he really brain damaged?" if so, what does that mean for the character? Also, are we really expected to believe that a man who just had his brain drilled into twice could just get up and move/shoot/detonate and entire base the way he did?

That was the point that the whole film fell apart for me. I could tell they were going for evil sciencey torture, but all I could think of was "Why even have a chair like that?"

Maybe the most preposterous thing about the film was the sequence in which M declares "he\'s on his own, we can\'t help him" or something like that. Except there\'s one problem with that: Bond is ALWAYS on his own. He has never been part of a team. He gets in trouble, he gets himself out of trouble. that\'s how it works. Saying he\'s on his own is a weak attempt at manufactured tension.

Viktor\'s right, they tell you outright about the Pale King. But still, this review was about the most spot-on as any out there. Tonight was my second time seeing it, just to confirm whether it was that bad, and all of the flaws you mentioned became just unbearable. But hey- what about how there was suddenly nobody on the train when the fighting broke out? There\'s exactly 2 times that it shows a "scared guy" in the background. Then nothing. They were probably too busy pressing oo7\'s suit for him- a service which is of course available on all Moroccan trains to the middle of nowhere, no doubt.

Curious that Playlist rates Lea S and Dave B so highly in this as pretty much everyone I know thought they were utterly drab in it: her character does nothing, and his is a resurrected cliche. Ben Whishaw brings so much more to his role, and to the movie, so we disagree there too. The fundamental problem with this film is a problem that\'s creeping fast into movies, and it\'s this obsession with the apparent \'mythology\' of the protagonists and referencing the past. This movie gets doubly tied up reviving touchstones from another era that just feel ludicrous in today\'s world, and trying to bind the last three films together for no good reason (would anyone believe Silva did everything he did to M in Skyfall, just because Oberhauser ordered it to get back at his foster-brother who handily happens to be M\'s employee? Sigh). Someone please let Denis Villeneuve direct the next one and pare back all the pantomime... once again.

The biggest problem with Bond now, which even Sam Mendes cannot fix, is a series that wants to pay homage to the past -- a character created in the \'50s -- while also trying to remain relevant in the present. This tension is nearing a breaking point. As is the character. At some point, particularly now with women in Hollywood openly decrying equal opportunities and compensation, Bond is going to appear ludicrous. I\'d love to see something 100% fresh happen in the Bond series. Something that would relieve the burden of the relic Bond being faithful to the past while dealing with the present. I\'d like to see a spinoff of the first female 00 agent. Bond could keep on being Bond while the female 00 agent would take care of the present and future. It would require Broccolli and Wilson relinquishing some control however, as they could not be hands-on with two Bond movies simultaneously.

I feel that Christoph Waltz would have been a better fit for a Dr. No character. I also felt that there were so many loose ends and pointless plot elements that didn\'t really develop. It seems that there have been a lot of movies and video games doing that lately. Half assed throwbacks to the old stories, in poorly developed new stories.
