This is really puzzling. It\'s now 2014, and last year\'s "And So It Goes" with just an 18% aggregate from RT, did nothing to alter the impression of irreversible decline. I\'ve read some comments suggesting that Reiner was never first class... that he simply tossed a good script up on the screen. This is generally a writer\'s argument, that the word is all, and virtually anyone can translate a good word into a great film. (Conversely, a director\'s argument has occasionally been, "give me the phone book, and I\'ll make a hit film". Both based on misperception, ego, and a age old battle in Hollywood involving respect and power). Reiner, of course, came from writing, and would certainly argue that it all begins with the screenplay. However, that still sheds no light on how, overnight, his directorial talent has seemed to vanish. Perhaps, like Levinson, he might be recruited for some interesting.....even plitically relevant projects for HBO like "Recount" and "Game Change". HBO, Showtime, Netflix, Amazon,Crackle...seems to be where Reiner\'s kind of projects are headed anyway.

Great list. I wonder if he ever wonders the same thing about his career.

It's funny that between this and your Oliver Stone list I was reminded of a couple of iconic roles from Tom Cruise and made me remember why he is such a big star.
