Finally had a chance to view La Ceremonie -- chilling. The juxtaposition of a bourgeois family\'s banal (emotional) existence and the psychologically escalating violence of two personages of evil -- both of them permitted entry but only one of them by the family -- is grotesque. However, it is the sense of unease that is written all over "Sophie"\'s face, from the moment she is interviewed by "Mme. Lelievre" over une tasse de the in a cafe to the tragic moment that follows a shared pot of chocolat chaud, which is unnerving to this viewer in the hours following the film\'s finale.

AWESOME writeup! Chabrol probably won\'t get the web traffic that a Godard or Kubrick retrospective would get, but it\'s articles like this that keep your blog nice and dense and nuanced. Believe me, it goes a long way!

Great great work, you guys.
