First of all, Sam began directing in 1949, not 1939. Second, WHITE DOG was given a belated theatrical release (by me when I was at Paramount) in 1991 to rave reviews and substantial business (for an art-house release).

as one of the biggest FULLER fans (keep it in the family) I can only say that SAM not only
captured the zeitgeist with most of his films, but was also way ahead of his time. He captured
like no other our contradictary humanity and dared going back to our primitive instincts, not
afraid of using cliches. WATCH Mark Hamill in A FULLER LIFE directed by SAMANTHA FULLER ending his dialogue with: there is no civilised war.
AND HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT..........
THERE IS NOT SUCH A THING AS A CIVILISED WAR.........

Crimson Kimono is a good film. Fuller was great at having mixed race casts and giving non-whites equal roles. It would have been cool to have Glenn Corbett and James Shigeta reprise their roles in a regular weekly buddy cop show produced by Fuller, but in 1959 unfortunately that wouldn't have flown.

China Gate is also interesting in that it focused on mid-50's Vietnam and had Angie Dickinson as a mixed-race(!) character with an illegitimate son trying to get out of the 'Nam. Sam Fuller was awesome!

Curtis Hansen was "very young" when he co-wrote White Dog? He was 35-36.
