Yes, this is a horrible adaptation overall, and part 3 looks like a travesty. But, let's kill off this stupid "Ayn Rand wouldn't have approved of the Kickstarter campaign" notion. Nothing in her philosophy says that voluntary action taken in support of a value is a bad thing–quite the opposite. The fact that so many people fail to understand this demonstrates just how widely her philosophy is misperceived (and misrepresented).
