Khan Manka, Jr. gave one of the great keynote addresses at last year’s Comic-Con – and basically said the studios should and would be backing out. Studios just don’t have the power they think they do over the mindset of fans.

I think studios have realized that it\’s more or less pointless to concentrate their marketing on the core fanbase for the simple fact that they\’re going to see the movie regardless. It\’s more important to push towards general audiences.

I think they\’re starting to realize that popular culture has become thoroughly nerdified now, and there\’s little reason to hype things at a more rarified venue, when not just nerds, but nerds\’ moms are going to go see Dark Knight Rises.

Still feel like Dark Knight Rises will have some kind of presence there. They did a big scavenger hunt thing for TDK and with the campaign already started (revealing Bane) I think they\’d be missing out on a big opportunity to do something there.
