Jim Sturgess--HEARTLESS and THE WAY BACK.Esp.HEARTLESS

It\'s too bad,Jim Sturgess is always overlooked by your blog. And his brilliant performance in FIFTY DEAD MEN Walking was also overlooked by The Playlist last year. Please see these two films.Capone at AICN says like this in his HEARTLESS review.

\"I\'ll be the first to admit, the film\'s star, Jim Sturgess, was one of those guys who just never really had me convinced he had anything to give the acting world. I wasn\'t a fan of either ACROSS THE UNIVERSE or 21, but then I caught his leading role in the IRA-themed 50 DEAD MEN WALKING and my opinion of him began to turn. I\'m hearing very good things about his work in the upcoming THE WAY BACK, but nothing quite prepared me for what he pulls off in Heartless, in which he plays the reclusive Jamie, ..\"The film is scary, beautifully acted, and I never knew quite where it was going. But once it got there, my heart started racing. And none of it would have worked nearly as well without Sturgess\' fearless performance. I\'m actually glad he is shunning the cutesy stuff right now, and challenging himself at every turn. But even I was shocked by what he achieves in HEARTLESS. \"

Dear haters. Salt made $118 million in the U.S. and was budgeted around $110 million, not counting another 30-40 million for P&A. It made another $175 million worldwide, minus what 40-50 million for P&A across the rest of the planet. Do the math is that a huge success?

Knight and Day was profitable too, but it stalled at $76 million in the U.S. and was budgeted around $117 million, minus the same P&A costs (remember the budgeting estimates at BO mojo are always conservative too). Internationally it hauled in $185 minus the same international P&A costs. Profitable? Yes, but the point remains, Jolie and Cruise are not the same draws they were, at least not in the North America and last time we checked this site is was based in North America and a little thing like the film industry we discuss on a daily basis is also based there.

What a great list! Comprehensive, honest an a great read. I will have to check out the ones I\'ve missed. I\'m trying to think of who you missed, but I think you got them all! Well done! Sure you might not of been accurate about some of the flops, the list is spot-on!

This sounds like the companion piece to Brooke Barnes\' NYTImes fluff. All the constellations in the sky couldn\'t sell How Do You Know, not even if all your breakout stars were in it.. Salt however cements rather than diminishes Jolie\'s drawing power since it\'s #17 among this year\'s top 20 worlwide (and #18 Domestic). Even Knight and Day wasn\'t too shabby at #21 WW -- people were just too quick to write off Cruise. These stars are stars because of their worldwide drawing power and this year\'s results don\'t disprove that. How much better would Scott Pilgrim have done if it had one of these stars attached? We\'ll have to see how The Tourist fares when it opens in all the markets but the same movie without Depp and Jolie wouldn\'t make a fraction of what it has.
