‘The Bluff’: Zoe Saldaña’s Pirate Survival Movie Produced By The Russo Bros. Lands At Amazon Prime Video

As the Berlin International Film Festival gets underway, so do big purchases on the European Film Market for future movie projects. And Deadline has the scoop on the first big deal at the Berlinale.  Amazon Prime Video has snatched up the international rights to “The Bluff,” a Caribbean action-survival movie with Zoe Saldaña and the Russo Bros. producing through AGBO.  Rocket Science and CAA are the sellers.

Initially set up at Netflix, “The Bluff” sees Saldaña as an ex-pirate in the 19th century Caribbean who must protect her family after her past comes back to haunt her. The film sees the actress team up with the Russos again after “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” The Russos don’t direct the movie, though. Instead, Frank E. Flowers helms “The Bluff,” with the script by Joe Ballarini. Saldaña has history with Flowers, too. They worked together on the 2004 crime film “Haven,” also set in the Caribbean.

“For Zoe and I, being from the Caribbean, “The Bluff” is a chance to blend culture and authenticity with AGBO’s brand of world-class, theatrical-level action, creating a film that audiences have never seen before,” Flowers said about the upcoming film. While Flowers isn’t involved in producing “The Bluffs,” Saldaña is. She co-produces through Cinestar with her sisters Mariel and Cisely. Meanwhile, AGBO producers include the Russo bros. Mike Larocca, and Angela Russo-Ostot.

“The Bluffs” may be the first EFM news out of Berlin, but it won’t be the last. Stay tuned for more news from the Berlinale.
