A few diehard Cumberbatch fans here it seems. Love his acting but realistically, I just hope the Tinker and War Horse roles lead him to bigger lead roles. Hope he gets the Fassbender-like push because he deserves it; equally talented if not more.

But I would disagree about the comment about Tinker going flat without him onscreen; he has the more flashy scenes of the cast which make him stand out but his co-stars are doing equally fabulous subtle work as well (hence the reasoning why none of the supporting TTSS players will get a nom).

But the comment does highlight why Gary Oldman\’s chances of winning are slim; his acting is at the level of subtlety that handicaps his chances at a lead win which is a huge shame because that\’s a skill that is so underappreciated. To call his nomination (if he does get one) a \”sob story nomination\” is frankly rather insulting and a disappointing way to praise another actor but we all have opinions.

There was a screening of Wettest County recently because the imdb boards have some reactions. I don\’t think they\’d be screening the film at this point without an intent to release it this year. And from that screening the general consenus is that Tom Hardy is the best actor in it, so you might need to add him to the Best Sup. Actor category. BTW, Jessica Chastain has been sining his praises ever since the filming wrapped.

Cumberbatch is a phenomenal actor and when he\’s on screen I dont look at any actor – even Gary Oldman – thats a sign of a great actor. Actually I was less impressed with Gary\’s performance in Tinker Tailor than Cumberbatch and Strong. Hardy\’s performance was a bit of a let down to be honest. Infact in the Paris scene he didnt pitch it right at all. It jarred.

I dont think any of the actors will get nominated other than Gary\’s sob story nomination. But of all of them Cumberbatch was the one actor who I wanted to see more of on screen. The film went flat when he wasnt on screen.

Carey Mulligan\’s \’New York, New York\’ scene in Shame should get her a nomination in itself.

Redgrave\’s performance in Coriolanus is the best thing about it.

jodennis , yes, Benedict Cumberbatch deserved an Emmy nomination for Sherlock Holmes ( he put Robert Downey Jr. to shame ), and he definitely deserves an Oscar nomination for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Moneyball is entertaining , but not Oscar worthy. Brad Pitt nor Jonah Hill deserve Oscar nominations.

In many of the reviews of \”Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy\”
where all have gotten excellent reviews one of the few who have been mentioned for a particular scene, and there have been 2 prominent ones, has been Benedict Cumberbatch. Some have said he was the stand-out in the film of great actors. I don\’t see why he couldn\’t get a supporting actor nomination. (If he got the support, then there is \”War Horse: where in 10 seconds in the trailer made people feel the emotion) Yes, a very strong last couple of years but he has always been Great.
\”Hawking\”, \”To The Ends Of The Earth\”, the docu-drama \”Van Gogh\” \”Third Star\” (small independent film) absolute stunning work, besides of course,
the incredible \”Sherlock\”. This is an actor who will have a long career and never give anything less than a superb performance.

I\’m glad you guys like Ehle in Contagion as much as I did. She was pretty much on par with Winslet (who can\’t help but be fantastic) but as it\’s a bigger role, she really deserves some recognition.

Looks like it\’s Plummer vs. Brooks for supporting actors. Though I do see Hammer getting a nod over Hill or Oswalt.

Jonah Hill? Are you kidding? He did what every comedic actor does when they get a dramatic role: nothing. See Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction.

And the industry reacts the same way every time it happens: \”Oh my god he\’s acting! He must be great!\”. See Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine or anything, really. Or Bill Murray.
