Good fuckin' article guys. Very logical and level-headed. Being able to recognize specific technical acheivments amongst a heap o' shit movie is not something your average view can do, or would even WANT to do... so it's easy to forget that just because Transformers 3 was a complete turd in most of the obvious ways, that doesn't exclude the film from being capable of acheiving small, technical victories.

I can at least admit that the CG robots in Transformers are VASTLY superior to the CG used in George Lucas's Star Wars prequels, and frankly I think even Avatar was more cartoonish and unrealistic-looking that the Transformers CG.

Hate on the franchise all you want - it certainly does deserve our undying loating - but don't let that fool you into thinking the franchise can justifiably be rewarded for its technical achievements. Sporting CG effects that actually BEAT those used by the Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Avatar franchises/films is commendable.

The fact that "We Need to Talk About Kevin" didn't get a nod for sound design indicates that the members of the Academy either don't understand what sound design is or didn't watch the film. Robot sounds are not nearly as impressive as what was done in that film.
