The bracketed (the novel) was, I think, an editor\'s addition. What I\'d meant that he was working with a script from Nat Faxon & Jim Rash, rather than usual co-writer Jim Taylor. But, yeah, I could have been clearer on that point.

And cirkusfolk, District 9 was 1) a solid gold $100m plus hit, which Winding Refn\'s won\'t be, and 2) Sneaked in , when there was a field of ten, likely in 9th or 10th position. I\'d love Drive to get a nomination, but it\'s just not happening.

\"But working from someone else’s source material (the novel) seems to have brought out something new in the director\"

Er, what? Alexander Payne has almost always worked with other\'s source material, including Election, Schmidt and Sideways. In fact, he - like Kubrick and Kaufman - is an American famed for his adaptations more than anything else. Seriously, what you said - that the adaptation process \"brought out something new in the director\" - means literally nothing.

Midnight in Paris absolutely is in the running, that\'s why it\'s number 5 in the chart.

Sadly, Drive is about as likely to get a Best Picture nomination as Shark Night 3D.

And yes, as Kevin says, Win Win was too early a release. It\'s the way of the game. Same with Jane Eyre.

Unfortuantely, \"Win Win\" will be cursed by its spring release which means it will be forgotten. \"Drive\" is a strict genre movie, and a tough and edgy one, and yeah, it will not be in the Best Picture race.

So the two best reviewed movies of the year, Win Win and Midnight In Paris, aren\'t even in the running? And what about Drive...so far it is also one of the best reviewed movies this year too as it is in the 90% according to RT.
