@Claire- My point was that Michelle Williams is playing a hugely iconic AMERICAN actress... it carries a different kind of nostalgia with American audiences than it does abroad. I\'m not saying it doesn\'t have appeal, hell Marilyn Monroe was a global sensation but there is a special place in America\'s heart for the epitome of what was the American bombshell (and in more specific terms, in the Academy\'s heart). I am speaking to Oliver\'s point- that she may not be lock- which is not true. Williams\' is a lock for a nomination at the very least. I\'m hoping for a win.

Also, it\'s probably a bigger deal to mention Rachel Weisz\'s Deep Blue Sea snub. Pretty thin Best Actress line-up, you would think a beloved Brit like Weisz would have been a shoe-in (plus it\'s a splendid performance in a so-so film).

Just a small thing... BIFA is not run by the Raindance Institute!!! It is a company in it\'s own right and although maintains a relationship with Raindance, it is in no way run by the institute.

Also, Teddy - what other American actors (aside from Michelle who you\'ve already mentioned) are in British Independent Films this year that YOU would put forward to be nominated?

If more American actors want to be nominated for BIFAs, perhaps they should cut their fees and do more British Independent Films!!

It looks like very few American actors, if any, were nominated- so I\'m not surprised that Williams\', an American actress, playing unarguably one of the most iconic AMERICAN actresses in history wasn\'t nominated. Snotty Brits!

Just like you said Oliver, \"So what does this mean for the awards race in general? In all likelihood, not a lot. The awards, run by the Raindance Institute, don’t figure heavily in the minds of Academy members.\"
