It\’s also interesting to note that you say the word in question \”has definite meaning\”, but completely fail to describe what said meaning is. That\’s my point. \”Mannered\” has become so overused that people think its definition is self-evident and merely using the word makes them look smart. I doubt half of the people on the internet who describe a performance as \”mannered\” could tell you the word\’s definition when asked.

Regarding DiCaprio\’s performance in \”J. Edgar\”, it\’s fairly obvious to be that people would have attacked it no matter what, simply because the film fits within the equally meaningless stereotype of \”Oscar Bait\”.
