Over and over again these articles read as though The Playlist do not do their homework. Crash is by no means considered lesser Cronenberg. It always finished highest amongst his 90s films in 90s film polls, and in recent lists, including that of Slant Magazine, of Cronenberg\’s best it even finished first. I understand that it\’s not for everyone, but I can\’t comprehend how that makes it a film that is considered "lesser."

Antonioni\’s \’L\’Avventura\’ was booed and derided by most of the press but went on to win the Jury Prize after its second screening and the efforts of a gang of filmmakers and French press who banded together to collect over 200 signatures from industry professionals on a petition to recognise the film as a daring and formally ingenious step forward for cinema. As controversies go it has a happy ending but it shouldn\’t be forgotten that this film was dismissed outright by the majority of critics that saw the 1960 premiere.

Booed at Cannes to the point the director Maurice Pialat said upon winning the Palme d\’Or; "I won’t be untrue to my reputation. I am, above all, happy this evening for all the shouts and whistles you’ve directed at me; and, if you don’t like me, I can tell you that I don’t like you either."
