Okay it was black and white scope, a true rarity in the late 70s, still it\’s not nearly as well shot as STARDUST MEMORIES or BROADWAY DANNY ROSE. Seriously. Put them on sometime and give em a look. MANHATTAN\’s cinematography is actually kind of pedestrian. One can point to a million other scope B&W films that look better: BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING, to pull one out of thin air.

Woody\’s movies are very underrated when it comes to their cinematography.

I\’d throw in one of his collaborations with Khondji just because he\’s become such a dominant presence visually for Woody in his late years. He\’s convinced Woody to shoot anamorphic a bunch of times, which for a long while he\’d only done with "Manhattan." I didn\’t like "Magic in the Moonlight" very much, but the cinematography was breathtaking. I guess I\’d probably put "Midnight In Paris" on the list for Khondji\’s best contribution. That movie is beautiful.
