Nothing like making a movie about a gay man, a man whose death occurred *because* he was gay, by fixing him up with a sexy female confident, eh Hollywood?

Maybe one day these brave and courageous film-makers (so I'm told) will actually leave the gay stuff in.

"Set in two periods —1951, after Enigma has long been broken, and 1941, as the irascible and arrogant Turing has applied for the code-breaking job (his unsocialzed Asperger’s-like personality almost getting him bounced out of the interview)— Graham Moore’s adept screenplay deftly navigates between both settings and even gives the latter period a touch of mystery, sending the suspenseful drama, taking place in the throes of WWII, off to the races."

This is a long sentence, with too many clauses. I'm feeling pretty stabby about it.

"Knightley, also a member of the team, is quite good with what she’s given, but is somewhat subsidiary to the narrative as many female roles unfortunately are these days"

Or maybe this is Turing's story hers so she should be 'subsidiary'? She is a SUPPORTING CHARACTER: it is her - and all the other characters' functions - to support the lead character's journey. Her role - like that of the Goode character - should only be present to the extent that she is important in HIS LIFE. When she sees him towards the end, her function is to help and understand him: her identity is as irrelevant as, say, the Goode character. This criticism feels completely arbitrary, stupidly politically correct and misunderstanding of the narrative's needs. I would never watch a film about a lesbian and think "hmm, needs more male characters", so why there would be an expectation that a story about a gay mathematician should need beefed up female characters is a mystery.
