wowee alot of praise for RED RIDING… does that mean it didn't receive much critical praise after its UK airing?

Yeah, they're fantastic films that barely got a passing mention here in the UK. Bizarre they were shown on TV. Another example of this is Samantha Morton's directorial debut 'The Unloved' (a gem in the vein of Lynne Ramsay) which was shown on More4, and no-one noticed. But then our film industry is perennially in the toilet:

It is really strange to have watched Red Riding on tv in the UK months ago – where it received no little acclaim but ratings weren't great – and now to read the response in the US.

Can you imagine any American miniseries being released theatrically in Europe? When I was a kid, the original Battlestar Galactica pilot got a UK Cinema release, as did the old live-action Spider-Man pilot, and even a two-part storyline ("Spider-Man and the Dragons Challenge"). HBO makes films of sufficient quality, but it'll never happen again.
