Odds are, you’ve probably already forgotten about director Doug Liman’s 2008 action film, “Jumper.” While the film wasn’t a massive bomb at the box office, it failed to reach the exact numbers that the studio was hoping for to greenlight a sequel. Now, 10 years later, the “Jumper” franchise is back, but it only has a few things in common with the original film.

YouTube has just released the first teaser for their “Jumper” spin-off series, “Impulse.” In the series, we follow a 16-year-old girl, played by Maddie Hasson, that feels like an outcast in her town.

Companies like Netflix and Amazon have been making headlines over the last couple years by buying up prestige films from festivals and releasing those films on their streaming services. The strategy has paid off pretty well for these companies, receiving awards recognition and publicity for their “original” films. However, streaming giant YouTube hasn’t really dived headfirst into this sort of strategy before. Instead, the Google company has only dipped their toes into feature films, primarily focusing on developing “in-house” talent on their YouTube Red premium service.

There’s a recent resurgence of films being brought back to life on TV, ranging from “Lethal Weapon” to “Fargo.” And now, “Jumper” is getting in the mix with director Doug Liman turning his 2008 film into a series.

YouTube Red will bring “Impulse” to its streaming platform. Based on the novel written by Steven Gould, who also penned “Jumper,” this new series will take place years after the original where the two heroes, played in the film adaptation by Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson, have a young daughter who inherits her father’s teleportation ability.
