The character of Thor has undergone some immense changes since his introduction in the 2011 titular film. Originally shown to be a bit of an idiot and brat that wasn’t worthy of the throne, Thor has evolved into a silly, witty comedic force in the MCU. Hell, he’s even packed on a few pounds in the process, literally bringing a new layer to the character. And this evolution has a lot to do with actor Chris Hemsworth, who turned being bored and disinterested in his superhero character to helping change Thor into the loveable goof he is now.

Darren Aronofsky Begins Talks To Direct ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2,’ Also Offered ‘Tales From The Gangster Squad’

For a guy who professes not to be a comic book fan, Darren Aronofsky could have fooled us. Since breaking through with “Pi” and “Requiem for a Dream,” he’s been attached to a number of graphic novel-related properties, including “Watchmen,” “Batman: Year One,” the Manga adaptation “Lone Wolf and Cub” and “Robocop” (which yeah, isn’t based on a comic book, but might as well be). With his latest film “Black Swan,” picking up excellent buzz, he’s been linked of late to “Preacher,” “Superman” and “X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2.”

Supposedly, Aronofsky was pursuing “Superman” fairly vigorously, but proved to be too much of a perfectionist for Warner Bros, and Zack Snyder landed the gig on Monday.

With “X-Men: First Class” finally locking its cast down and going before cameras shortly, we thought that things might quiet down on the mutant movie news front. But of course, Fox have a few X-Men spin-offs in the works, and are keen to show momentum on them. With Ryan Reynolds taking on the thriller “Safe House,” “Deadpool” won’t start filming until next year, so it looks like the next batch of mutant mayhem will come from the sequel to last year’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” and that project may have found a director.

Ok, those who held out some blind hope that Bryan Singer might direct “Wolverine 2,” get over it. It’s not going to happen.

The sequel to “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” looks — despite our internal skepticism — that it will indeed shoot next year (though likely not in January) and thus Jackman has dropped out of Kevin Lima’s “Avon Man” comedy (which was supposed to shoot earlier this spring and then was delayed until the fall so Jackman could do “Butter” with Jennifer Garner).

Did this happen? Did nerd stuff automatically become cool stuff? Hot babes are wearing Vulcan ears, frat boys are whistling the theme, and now people are showing up in droves for “Star Trek.” The eleventh film in the series scored by far the biggest opening, bringing in $72.5 million ($76.5 million if Thursday counts), topping the $30.7 million haul of ’96’s “Star Trek: First Contact.” It didn’t match the opening of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” but credit where credit’s due, the second weekend of May has typically been a weak period to debut, with the summer’s usually-big kickoff movie enjoying a fruitful second weekend- witness “Speed Racer” stalling at the starting line last year.

Ok, it’s really too impossible to quantify, but…

Foxs News Corp. once thought that about 1 million people downloaded “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” Now their estimates claim around 4 million people probably downloaded the pirated and unfinished workprint.

Movieline does the math (thank god, we weren’t about to) and estimates around $28 million worth of extra dough could have been added to the worldwide tally that was $174 million (seriously, that’s a sad, sad commentary on the world we live in).

More Marvel: Deadpool Spin-Off Film Confirmed? Updates On ‘Thor’ And ‘Avengers’

We’re probably in the minority here, but the character of Deadpool in the execrable “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” was easily our least favorite (which says a lot considering Will.I.Am was also in the nonsensical action picture). And we actually think Ryan Reynolds is an underrated actor who will go on to do some interesting work if afforded the chance, but he was godawful as the one-note (zero-note) Deadpool.

Still, the fans listen and the studios unfortunately spend waaaay too much time listening to the fans (see all of ‘Wolverine,’ see the Leonard Nimoy conceit which threatens to ruin the otherwise very strong “Star Trek” prequel; we fully enjoy and endorse this Empire article that argues why studios should just completely give up on the comic book store gastropods fans).

With the financial success of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” — against all odds, including a leak and terrible reviews — a sequel was seemingly just around the corner. Now, according to Variety, that very sequel is officially being developed by 20th Century Fox and Hugh Jackman’s production company, Seed.

Jackman had previously spoken of his desires for follow up films and had gone as far as discussed with talent: “I won’t lie to you, I have been talking to writers,” he told MTV.

Despite online rumors of his involvement in a Nazi zombie film titled “The Christ Must Die,” Peter Jackson’s manager Ken Kamins has confirmed otherwise. “It sounds like an April Fool’s joke. Peter and Fran [Walsh, Jackson’s partner] are working diligently on “The Hobbit” for the foreseeable future.” The alleged film, which was revealed by comedian Stephen Fry, was reportedly about Nazi zombies who travel back in time to stop the birth of Jesus.

There’s a entirely good explanation for why 20th Century Fox embargoed all U.S. reviews of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” until today, May 1, the day of its release in North America. That’s because it’s a total laughable turkey and they knew this all along. This is basically putting it nicely.

Reviews that would have arrived early would have slayed the film, and they’re well aware of this, so be on the lookout for a bodyslam of eviscerating reviews, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” was seriously that execrable.

You gotta love set-the-record-straighter wannabe Ombudsman Patrick Goldstein.

He’s been tracking 20th Century Fox’s Tom Rothman who was basically caught in a lie. Rothman said, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” the final version would be a significantly different cut from the unfinished leaked workprint.

It’s not. And amid bland statements from the studio at least Goldstein is trying to reveal the true story. Sorry, if we roll our eyes with skepticism, but of course Fox and Rothman are going to come up with some damage-control excuse, no?

20th Century Fox’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” has had the shittiest luck of any major studio film this year and aside from a plague of locusts hitting this weekend across all of the continental United States, it probably can’t get any worse.

First the unfinished workprint leaked and it was rife with comical-looking unfinished effects and well, unfinished or not, it looked laughable. Then a gossipy Fox reporter reviewed the film and was fired for doing so (wait, that wasn’t so inopportune).

“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” director Gavin Hood has confirmed earlier reports that the theatrical version of his film will not differ significantly to the leaked workprint. Hood noted that the leaked version had 400 unfinished visual effects shots, no score, unfinished sound mixing and unfinished coloring but failed to mention the key scenes that were previously claimed to be missing by Fox chairman Tim Rothman.

Hood did reveal though that the film will feature multiple secret ‘easter egg’ endings.

Is The ‘Wolverine’ Workprint Cut Exactly The Same As The Finished Film?

When the “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” workprint leaked about a month ago, several prominent voices, including 20 Century Fox head Tom Rothman, stepped up and claimed that the leaked cut, which featured unfinished special effects and sound cues, was vastly different than the version that would hit theaters May 1st.

This didn’t stop thousands upon thousands of downloaders from finding the film on their own and judging its merits, noting the leaked version’s unfinished nature compared to recent reshoots and a runtime of 105 minutes that didn’t compare to the reported 120 minute-length cut.

Hugh Jackman is in full-on “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” promotion mode — twittering, jumping out of helicopters to impress people and whatnot — and in speaking to the press yesterday he, as you’d expect, condemned the leak of his unfinished movie.

“It’s a serious crime, and there’s no doubt it’s very disappointing — I was heartbroken by it,” Jackman told press in Sydney, Australia.

Jackman says watching the leak is like taking a luxury sports car for a testride before the automobile was ready to go out on the lot.
