David Fincher‘s upcoming Netflix movie, “The Killer” starring Michael Fassbender, was supposed to shoot this fall in Paris with Oscar-winning “Mank” cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt behind the camera. That’s now slightly changed, but we’ve also received confirmation about something we’ve been hearing about for months: Tilda Swinton is going to co-star in the assassin thriller based on a French graphic novel series.

The ongoing game to get a “World War Z” sequel up and running continues. This week, “Beautiful Boy” producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner provided an update. They say the film is in the works, David Fincher is still attached to direct, Brad Pitt attached to star and Brad Kelly, who worked with Fincher previously on the failed remake of “Utopia” for HBO (now set up at Amazon without Fincher), is writing the script.

Although 2014’s “Gone Girl” turned out to be the biggest hit of David Fincher’s career to date, the acclaimed “Zodiac” and “The Social Network” director hasn’t had the best few years. He was all set to have not one but two HBO series, the semi-autobiographical ’80s music video world comedy-drama “Videosyncrazy” and UK conspiracy thriller remake “Utopia” with Rooney Mara, but the former was shut down midway through production, and the latter had the plug pulled just before filming, in both cases reportedly because of issues over budgets.

Last month, Paramount officially took the sequel to “World War Z” off their calendar for 2017, but it was merely a formality. The project seems to have been stalled for ages, unable to find a director (J.A. Bayona was initially attached, but exited to make the followup to “Jurassic World” instead), and Paramount, perhaps not eager to repeat the fiasco that befell the troubled production of the first film which had to undergo extensive reshoots, are taking their time to put the pieces in place.

Paramount’s zombie drama was just pulled off the release schedule this week — a kind of amusing move given the project has no director and hasn’t shot a lick of film. How in the world was it ever going to come out on June 9, 2017? The answer is that it wasn’t and Par pulled the film off the schedule waaaay after the fact.

OK, this is unexpected and not necessarily something you should hold your breath over. David Fincher is apparently in talks to direct Brad Pitt in the “World War Z” sequel, a picture Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona was once going to helm (instead he’s doing the “Jurassic World” sequel). According to Variety, Pitt, Paramount and Skydance, the producers of the film, are in talks with whom the trade inexplicably calls “the notoriously tedious filmmaker” (though they’ve since wiped that clean from their copy) David Fincher.
