Yesterday was the annual Saturn Awards, presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror films. Two time winner Sam Raimi made an appearance and Collider caught up with him for an interview. The site managed to squeeze some information out of him, in particular about upcoming films “World of Warcraft” and “Oz The Great and Powerful.”

In somewhat surprising news, Raimi claims that he is not confirmed to take the director’s chair for the Robert Downey Jr.

Holy shit the story of the year has arrived early. The duo of Nikki Finke and her newly poached Variety recruit, Mike Fleming have come down with the quickness and with a furious hammer.

The “Spider-Man” series as we know it is officially no more. “Spider-Man 4” is now dead in the water and director Sam Raimi and lead actor Tobey Maguire are off the project for good.

Instead, Sony is going to overhaul the project and reboot the entire thing.

Sam Raimi is going in a curious direction with his planned “World of Warcraft” movie, simply titled “Warcraft.” Is he aiming for prestige by plucking war movie vet Robert Rodat to craft the world of what is now being called “Warcraft”? The adaptation of the popular online role-playing game remains a project still in incubation, but Rodat, writer of “Ryan” and “The Patriot,” is settling in to be the first of, we predict, four major screenwriters tasked with squeezing a compelling narrative out of this property.

Sam Raimi Takes Helm Of Live-Action ‘World Of Warcraft’ Film

Where do we even start with this one? Wow, what!? Has Sam Raimi given up or is that we’ve now officially given up on him?

The filmmaker, adored for his inventive and and bloody, “Evil Dead” serious (but seriously, what have you done for us lately?*) has signed on to helm the live-action adaptation of the popular action-fantasy MMORPG video game “World Of Warcraft.” The director will supervise development of “Warcraft” and shoot the picture after he completes work on “Spider-Man 4,” which begins February next year.
