Sure, he’s not actively involved with the current state of “Star Trek,” but you can’t really think of the franchise without thinking about William Shatner. The actor not only plays the most iconic character in all of ‘Trek’ lore, but also has been a figure that has stayed involved with fandom in the decades since becoming Capt. James T. Kirk. And with that in mind, he just doesn’t understand why there are ‘Trek’ fans so scared of Quentin Tarantino.

Later this month, “Star Trek Beyond” opens, and to be totally honest, I still have zero idea what that movie is about other than I think Rihanna‘s new song saves the day or something. But regardless of how Trekkies might be feeling about the new film, it’s a good time to be a “Star Trek” fan, because even if the film is a disappointment, there’s a new TV series on the way next year, shepherded by Bryan Fuller (“Hannibal,” “Star Trek: Voyager“).

Amanda Bynes has tweeted her retirement saying, “Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem. If I don’t love something anymore I stop doing it. I don’t love acting anymore so I’ve stopped doing it.” She went on to tweet, “I know 24 is a young age to retire but you heard it here first. I’ve #retired.” If true, her last role will be in the upcoming Emma Stone comedy “Easy A.” She was also apparently cast and then let go from the upcoming comedy “Hall Pass” with Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis and Jenna Fischer.

Yes, we’re catching up on the year that was 2009…

Let’s preface this by saying — we’re not stupid (ok, maybe a little). We know Hollywood studios have been remaking, sequelizing and generally trying their best to bring down cinematic discourse, despite artists working inside the system to change that.

But in 2009, a disturbing level of desperation set in like we’ve never seen before. The act of “branding” seemed to have gotten way out of hand like a wet T-shirt party at an undersexed frat house, and we may have reached the tipping point — Hollywood doesn’t need stinking artists, and they barely need scripts, because anything that is an existing property can become a movie.
