A new report has revealed that we’ll be getting a “Call Me By Your Name” reunion with a new horror film from Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. The outlet also states that young actors Timothee Chalamet and Taylor Russell are currently in talks to take leading roles in the film “Bones & All,” described as a “horror-love story.”

The project is said to be up for bid and has multiple suitors are interested in landing the movie.

Over the last week or so, we’ve heard countless reports of productions around the world suspending due to the coronavirus pandemic, especially in European countries, where the outbreak has led to complete lockdown. One of the filmmakers that are greatly affected by this change is Luca Guadagnino. However, lucky for the director, the lockdowns in Europe aren’t completely stopping his productivity.

In a new Vulture essay, the filmmaker updated his coronavirus outbreak plans by explaining which projects he’s currently working on, as he has three in post-production.

Now, we get the teaser, the teaser for the teaser, the teaser trailer, the full trailer, the NSFW trailer, and the extended trailer. But here, we are paradoxically, hypocritically, contradictorily complaining about marketing, but also celebrating the art that’s sometimes part of it—at least the non-promotional aspect of it, if you can separate that from the product.

The 2019 Gotham Awards were handed out on Monday night at Cipriani’s in New Your City and while Laura Dern, Sam Rockwell, Ava DuVernay and FilmNation CEO and producer Glen Basner were honored with lengthy tributes it was “Marriage Story” which was the big winner of the night.  Or maybe it was actually Netflix?

Film Independent announced the 2020 Independent Spirit Awards nominations on Thursday morning and the bigger winner was A24 Films. The indie distributor took 18 nominations overall including two Best Feature nominees with “The Farewell” and “Uncut Gems” while the latter and “The Lighthouse” took five nominations each. Amazon Studios’ “Honey Boy” and Music Box Films’ under the radar “Give Me Liberty” earned four nominations each.

A trio of beautiful superspies didn’t stand a chance this weekend at the box office, as it was the duo of Christian Bale and Matt Damon that not only took the top prize but did so in dominating fashion. Sadly, the battle between “Ford v Ferrari” and “Charlie’s Angels” proved to be far less interesting than the period racing drama that won the weekend.

Someone better save some tables at the 2019 Gotham Awards for A24 because the independent distributor dominated the nominations earning 14 film nominations and 15 overall.  A24 films’ “The Farewell,” “Uncut Gems” and “Waves” all landed Best Feature nominations and “The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” “Midsommar” and “The Lighthouse” earned key nominations.  The other two Best Feature nominees are Netflix’s “Marriage Story” and, in a slight surprise, STX Entertainment’s “Hustlers.”

For those wondering why “Parasite” or other acclaimed international films are not part of the mix, nominees must be primarily funded in the United States to qualify for the Gotham Awards.

No other movie this year may teach you as much about love, pain, suffering, compassion, and forgiveness than Trey Edward Shults’ new family drama “Waves.” Having just seen the movie at the Telluride Film Festival this past weekend (our review here from Greg Ellwood), I can say “Waves” is emotionally epic and unwieldy in shape, but ambitious and the “Krisha” director’s best film to date.

You’ve heard the refrain from us a lot lately. The fall film festival season is upon us and life is nuts. The Telluride Film Festival just ended on Monday. The Venice Film Festival is still going strong, though near the end. And now it’s time for the largest festival in North America, arguably the world: the Toronto International Film Festival. Now TIFF can be seen, in some ways, as pretty broad, McDonald’s-like, featuring many, many stars and red-carpet glamor, all the things that make film festivals feel superficial from the outside.

TELLURIDE – Despite the South Florida setting, the “Waves” that are referred to in the title of Trey Edward Shults new drama are in no way the literal kind. In production notes provided to the press, the filmmaker best known for the indie darling “Krisha” says his film “exudes an ebb and flow resembling how I think life truly feels at times.” O.K., that is a bit of an obvious observation for an adult to make but we’ll admit it can be a jarring life lesson for a teenager.

While the Venice Film Festival happens simultaneously in Italy, Telluride takes place in the mountains of Colorado and despite some of the film line-up overlap, it’s a totally different festival.

“It Comes at Night” is a polarizing film. While there are many (myself included) that love Trey Edward Shults‘ psychological thriller, there are some people that are turned off by the pacing and the fact that despite hinting at something in the woods, nothing actually comes at night.
