Jackson Browne Debuts “Here” In “Shrink”

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jackson Browne penned a new song called “Here” for the latest Kevin Spacey therapy flick “Shrink.” Appropriately Browne’s track is a sort of self-aware, Laurel Canyon-esque song that salutes the acoustic Americana style. In a press release Browne explains the song as, “about two characters in the film who are struggling to accept what has happened in their lives. It’s about trying to be here in the present, even if you don’t really care for the present.”

Apparently we’ll soon see Browne in “Act Your Age: The Kids of Widney High Story,” a documentary about developmentally disabled protegees ages 13-22 who write, record and perform music and have become a cult of personality since releasing their first recorded album [editor’s note: holy shit!

Gene Stupnitsky, Lee Eisenberg Hook Up With Jake Kasden In Continued Plot To Rule Hollywood

Talk about from “The Office” to the penthouse- which we weren’t, of course, oh no. Screenwriters Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg have become new entrants in Hollywood’s funnyman screenwriter cattle call. After serving as Emmy-winning writers on the staff for “The Office,” they had their prehistoric comedy “Year One” picked up, and now are the names tasked with scribing the impossible, a big-budget “Ghostbusters 3” currently in pre-production.

But they aren’t sitting by idly while their cred flames out after a sure-to-be misfire like “GB3.” Instead, their original script (remember when we didn’t need to emphasize a script was original?

The antiquated music awards have been out of touch for some time now, but we guess they’re trying to slowly become more of the zeitgeist and may have made some steps forward by nominating Lil Wayne eight times this year for The Carter III (homeboy, we dig you, but drop the autotune already).

Entertainment Weekly placed Judd Apatow at number 1 on their “Top 50 Smartest People In Hollywood” list and not two weeks later, the comedy director, producer, had one of the biggest bombs of his career.

‘Walk Hard’: Idiotically Funny (This Is A Compliment)

Ok, so “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox” isn’t going to win any Academy Awards, that’s for sure, and yes, the ironic and self-deprecating Oscar campaign shows the filmmakers behind this project – are fully aware of this, but that’s not to say it’s not funny.

One motif we kept hearing (and one we said ourselves for a long time) was that the trailer looked terrible and unfunny, but surprisingly quite the opposite. In fact, most comedy trailers spoil the best part and tons of clips from the movie has leaked and it’s still quite the riot is near impossible to say about most stupid comedies.

Who is Lil’ Nutsack? Watch & Listen To The Filthy ‘Walk Hard’ Rapper

Who is Lil’ Nutsack? Chances are you don’t know him quite yet unless you’ve seen “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story,” already (which we have – our review next week).

Without giving too much away, Nutsack – as we’ve already mentioned – is a rapper who much later in Dewey Cox’s (John C. Reilly) career (basically when he’s retired, near the end of the film), samples “Walk Hard,” for his filthy hip-hop single, “(You Make Me So) Hard,” making Dewey relevant again and introducing his music to a whole new generation of kids (which leads to Dewey’s introduction in the Rock Hall of Fame – again, if you’ve been reading us, we’re not giving away anything that us and 10,000 other sites haven’t already said as well).

Remember the unlikely turn of phrase, “Academy Award winners Three 6 Mafia”?

Well, this year you might be able to add names like Eddie Vedder, Sondre Lerche, John C. Reilly, Glen Hansard and a bunch of other seemingly strange contemporary musicians to this odd sentence.

59 songs have been made eligible for Academy Award contention (this is originally composed songs specifically for films, not existing songs used in films or score) this year and they include a bunch of the films and soundtracks we’ve been discussing this year.

Golden Globe nominations are in this morning as of 8:45 a.m. and as some might of figured, the sweeping grandeur of Joe Wright’s adaptation of the Ian McEwan novel, “Atonement” swept up taking seven nominations.

The Best Picture category didn’t look all that surprising either, as recent critical favorites like “There Will Be Blood,” “No Country For Old Men” found their spots as well as early fall favorites, “Michael Clayton” and “American Gangster,” but “Easter Promises,” really?

Walk Hard ‘Box of Cox’ Deluxe Version On Itunes; 15 Extra Tracks

Ok, so it’s not actually called the Box of Cox like the filmmakers hoped, but as promised, Walk Hard: The Deluxe Edition (Motion Picture Soundtrack), is out on Itunes and features 15 songs not included on the original soundtrack. That’s 30 in total (What happened to the other 10? You’ll remember the soundtrack producer Michael Andrews and co. recorded over 40 tracks).

The tracklist is all mixed up from the original edition, but the new songs include four new versions of the Marshall Crenshaw-penned “Walk Hard” theme, including a punk version, the Jackson Browne, Jewel, Lyle Lovett, Ghostface Killah version, the disco-y ’70s TV Show theme song version and the very-explicit hip-hop version by Lil’ Nutsack (the filthiest song you have ever heard…and man, it’s really dirty,” said Judd Apatow).

“Superbad” did so friggin well this summer; completely exceeded expectations and over-performed to the extent that the Judd Apatow produced comedy might be looked as the “40 Year Old Virgin” underdog hit of 2007 (yet another Apatow vehicle).

With “Knocked Up” killin’ it in the spring, “Superbad” being the summer sleeper hit and the rock biopic spoof “Walk Hard” for Christmas this could easily be looked back on as the Year of Apatow.

Right again. There was a bit of confusion with the whole title track of “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” (though we really answered our own question last time and it’s very possible we were the only ones confused – or who noticed for that matter). And someone paid attention to our nitpicking reporting question. Rolling Stone had originally reported that Marshall Crenshaw had written the title track to “Walk Hard,” and then Billboard said that Lyle Lovett recorded the track which suggested to some that he had actually written.

Walk Hard Soundtrack: A Box Of Cox?

As you’re surely aware, the new Judd Apatow musical biopic satire, “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” is due in theaters on December 21 and has a host of musical guests including the White Stripes’ Jack White, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Veedder, Jewel, Ghostface Killah, Jackson Browne, Lyle Lovett and actors playing the Elvis, the Beatles and Buddy Holly.

The soundtrack sounds like a sprawling effort, either a mess or an epic depending on the execution, but either way there’s going to be a lot of music.
