‘Vanity Fair’ Trailer: Beware Old London Town, Olivia Cooke Is On Her Way In This New Amazon Series

Olivia Cooke is just on the cusp of breaking out. Even with 2018 featuring two major starring turns for the young actress, with “Thoroughbreds” and “Ready Player One,” Cooke hasn’t yet fully broken into the mainstream. Perhaps the upcoming Amazon series, “Vanity Fair,” will be the project that pushes her over the edge into superstardom.

In the first trailer for the upcoming series, which is about the 400th adaptation of the classic William Makepeace Thackeray novel of the same name, we meet Cooke’s version of Miss Rebecca Sharp, aka Becky Sharp, a young woman trying to make her way in the English society during the Napoleonic Wars.

Whatever awards season momentum James Franco and “The Disaster Artist” might have had came to a swift end at the Golden Globes as the multi-hyphenate was accepting his Best Actor award. Called out on Twitter for sexual misconduct during the ceremony, a few days later the full details of the allegations of sexual misconduct against Franco emerged. After a couple of public appearances where he said the claims were “not accurate,” while also supporting the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, Franco has stepped out of the spotlight.

Angelina Jolie‘s “First They Killed My Father” is gearing up to hit the fall festival circuit, and it can’t seem to shake an uncomfortable narrative around the casting of the film’s young lead, Sareum Srey Moch. Vanity Fair recently detailed the audition process which saw the child actors vying for the role given money, and then having it taken away, as part of an acting exercise.

Emma Stone’s excellent performance in “Zombieland,” and the success of that film, seems to have cemented the idea that the “Superbad” actress is one of the fastest-rising young stars in Hollywood — she even made the front cover of the annual Hollywood issue of Vanity Fair, although, as Gretchen Mol will attest, that’s not always a surefire confirmation of success. The actress signed last week to play Steve Carell’s daughter in “Stupid, Crazy Love,” alongside Ryan Gosling, and she’s already lined up another project.

Gilliam To Depp’s Career Choices: ‘Why Are You Doing This Shit?’

About a month ago, we covered some relatively unkind, or at least typically unfiltered words Terry Gilliam had in regards to dealing with Johnny Depp and his handlers for the shooting of “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.” In the Vanity Fair article, the notoriously candid filmmaker said, “Our friend is an empire now…that’s the sad thing about success.”

Well, here we go again. Gilliam sat down to an interview with HitFix at Comic-Con and once again expressed his distaste for Depp’s new found status and his recent work.

Vanity Fair Gets Meta, And Cheeky With The Apatow Crew

Feeling playful, cheeky and meta Vanity Fair and reknowned photographer Annie Leibovitz have used the Judd Apatow gang — Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel — to recreate one of Leibovitz’s own famous Vanity Fair covers; the March 2005 cover with designer Tom Ford and a very naked and milky Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley.

The amusing photo portfolio uses the Apatow troupe (and related satellite members, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, etc.) to recreate scenes from classic movies and classic photo celeb portraits including, some of our favorites, “Frankenstein,” Buster Keaton, and Danny McBride doing Jack Torrance in “The Shining.” [Vanity Fair]

Vanity Fair’s Photo Portfolio Salute To The Films Of Alfred Hitchcock

As you may have heard, Vanity Fair’s upcoming Movie/Oscar issue will contain a homagistic photo portfolio to the films of Alfred Hitchock. Our favorites – a combination of the best execution and our fave Hitch films are below. They include Marion Collitard (“La Vie En Rose”) portraying Janet Leigh’s famous shower scene in “Psycho,” Charlize Theron about to get strangled in “Dial M For Murder,” James McAvoy and Emile Hirsch as the respective psychotic con man and sap of “Strangers On a Train,” and Seth Rogen as a stand-in for Carey Grant during an iconic moment of “North By Northwest.”

We included the original photo context within VF’s photos just cause (except for the Cotillard one cause it speaks for itself and you never want to cover up her body).

Vanity Fair’s Lists Their “Top 50 (Mostly) Rock Soundtracks of All Time”

Remember we told you about Vanity Fair’s “Top 50 Soundtracks of All Time” which featured Prince’s “Purple Rain” at number 1, The Beatles’ “A Hard Days Night” at 2 and the reggae classic “The Harder They Come” at 3?

Well, Vanity Fair, in their “Movies Rock” issue (practically dedicated to our raison d’être) have finally put out their Top 50 list (but it’s not online).

The top 10 which we had already posted last month looked like this: In bold are some of our particular favorites and linked are any previous posts we’ve done about these soundtracks (generally with mp3 context).

Vanity Fair: ‘Purple Rain’ Bestest Soundtrack Ever

Vanity Fair is so inspired by what we do [riiiiiight] they are putting out an one-time issue called “Movies Rock” where they will reveal their subjective editorial picks for the Top 50 Soundtracks of All Time.

Number one of their list is The Artist Formerly Known, or still known as Prince’s “Purple Rain.” The issue comes out in November and is only available to those that subscribe to VF (hey, Kamp, can you loan us a copy?
