There are a little over three days left in Emmy nomination voting and the Television Critics Association (TCA) has given Television Academy members who haven’t completed their ballots yet something to think about. The nominations for the 2020 TCA Awards are out and featured a number of pleasant surprises. Not so surprising where the two programs that earned the most nominations, “Watchmen” and “Unbelievable” with four each.

Damon Lindelof’s Peabody winner earned nods in the Movie or Miniseries, Individual Achievement in Drama (Regina King), New Program and Program of the Year categories.

As we’ve chronicled over the past few weeks, there are a lot of questions surrounding the Emmys in regards to the Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Drama Series nominations. Despite the news that there will be eight nominees in each category this year, there are still many deserving programs that will be snubbed. None of that drama, however, compares to the battle royale that once again is the Outstanding Limited Series race.

Honestly, if HBO’s “Watchmen” doesn’t win this category the Television Academy has a problem. If its love for genre only goes as far as medieval fantasy (“Game of Thrones”) and slightly futuristic scenarios (“Westworld”), than Damon Lindelof’s modern classic will get screwed. In theory, it should win the top prize after landing 26 Emmy nominations. But, Netflix’s “Unbelievable” and “Unorthodox” are aiming to upset.

The USC Libraries named the finalists for the 32nd-annual USC Libraries Scripter Award, which honors the year’s most accomplished film and television adaptations, as well as the works on which they are based. The honor can be seen as a potential indicator for the nominee for Oscar’s best Adapted Screenplay. On the film side, “Jojo Rabbit,” “The Irishman,” “Little Women,” “The Pope,” “The Irishman” and, somewhat surprisingly, “Dark Waters” made the cut.

The advent of streaming, peak TV, prestige TV, and now, in late 2019, the new 2nd age of the Streaming Wars— thanks to the arrival of Disney+, Apple TV+, and soon, HBO Max—is going to make the content deluge even more difficult to navigate for audiences and TV critics, trying to discern what’s what and keeping up.

As seen in the trailer for “Unbelievable,” the crime thriller follows the story of two female cops on the case of a serial rapist that leaves no evidence. The problem that these investigators find is that because there is no evidence, the women that are coming forward aren’t being believed by local law enforcement.

There’s a lot of buzz surrounding Toni Collette right now. The actress stars in the new film, “Hereditary,” which is drawing immense praise and early awards talk, and rightfully so. Collette owns every frame that she appears in. And with everyone on the Toni Collette bandwagon right now, we’re all really excited for what’s next.

According to Variety, one of her upcoming projects sees the actress team up with the director of “The Kids Are All Right” for a series titled “Unbelievable.” The story follows two detectives, played by Collette and Merritt Wever (“Godless”), as they investigate a case where a young teen girl is accused about lying about being raped.
