This summer, the late iconic rapper gets the biopic treatment with “All Eyez On Me” which looks….serviceable. But the project that we’d bet will be the authoritative take on the rapper’s life, career, and legacy will be the one coming from Steve McQueen.

The director of “Hunger,” “Shame,” and “12 Years A Slave,” will helm a documentary about Shakur, with Gloria Cox, Tupac Shakur’s aunt and Afeni Shakur’s only sister, among the producers.

Antoine Fuqua’s planned biopic of late, controversial rapper Tupac Shakur is set to undergo a major re-work from the scribing team of Stephen J. Rivele and Chris Wilkinson (“Ali”) before hopefully getting in front of cameras in mid-November.

The writing duo have been brought on board to revamp the script for what will now follow Tupac on his final days while flashing back to the final four years of his life. The project was revealed to be greenlit only this past June with the original script by Steven Bagatourian reportedly more of a documentary-style fact-based retelling of the rapper’s short 25 years.

Given that the upcoming porn biz story “Middle Men” starring Luke Wilson looks just a cut above a direct-to-DVD movie, we’re a bit surprised the film is not only getting an official soundtrack release, but that it boasts a very expensive-looking tracklisting.

The Rolling Stones don’t come cheap, and we wonder how much of the film’s budget was spent on securing two of their biggest songs, “Sympathy For The Devil” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” Musician and vegan Moby gets a couple of cuts with “Honey” and “Body Rock” making appearances, while Outkast and 2Pac keep things street level with their respective hits “The Way You Move” and “California Love.” Some nice oldies tunes by Patsy Cline, Louis Prima and Tito Puente also appear while the likes of George Thorogood, Hall & Oates and Tears For Fears are also in the mix.

Antoine Fuqua has revealed his next film will be a biopic of controversial rapper Tupac Shakur, who was infamously killed during a Las Vegas drive-by shooting in 1996.

The director was recently linked to a reunion with “Tears Of The Sun” star Bruce Willis on prison-escape drama “The Tomb” — that, however, is now being described by Fuqua simply as “a conversation I’ve been having with Bruce.” Fuqua was also recently attached to direct “Consent To Kill” that back in January that had Colin Farrell, Gerard Butler & Matthew Fox battling for the lead role of Mitch Rapp, a counterterrorism agent who goes up against “a vengeful Saudi billionaire, an ex-East German Stasi spy and a husband-and-wife team of assassins — all while dealing with a knee injury.” That film was set up at CBS Films and had a proposed summer shoot date but with nothing being announced about the film since, we would guess development is stalled for now.

First there was a movie about the life of the Notorious B.I.G., then a film based on the RUN DMC story was announced, and the planned Tupac Shakur film biography is weighed down in a legal battle, but hip-hop biopics are not going away anytime soon.

The latest to be announced? New Line is planning a film around the story of seminal L.A. gangster rap outfit N.W.A. (Niggaz With Attitude), an incendiary and controversial quintet that spawned the careers of hip-hop greats Ice Cube, Eazy-E and Dr.

The “Notorious” biopic of slain rapper Christopher Wallace, aka The Notorious B.I.G. wasn’t fantastic, but apparently did well enough to keep interest in the slain hip-hop star genre alive.

Now it’s time for Tupac Shakur — who had a small, but pivotal role in the Biggie story — and his fateful tale to receive its cinematic experience, but it appears it’s having trouble getting out the front door.

According to THR, Morgan Creek studios and the Shakur estate are at odds and scuffling over the rights to the story.

We should have posted this last week when we saw the film a week before it hit theaters. We got lazy, sue us.

Is ten years after an artists life too soon to lionize them onscreen? The Notorious B.I.G. became a hip-hop icon not long after his untimely death in 1997 as almost all young stars do when they burn out too soon (or their flame is put out in his case). But something is always unsettling and odd about seeing a performer that you saw on the small screen just… well it feels just like yesterday, played by someone who is clearly not him.

“Skim off all the visual bling, and ‘Notorious’ is a rock-solid biopic with a foolproof rise-and-fall storyline and a warmly nuanced performance by Jamal Woolard as iconic rapper Christopher Wallace — aka Biggie Smalls, aka the Notorious B.I.G,” writes Variety’s John Anderson in his review about the George Tillman Jr.-directed film. “Less interested in the particulars of Smalls’ 1997 slaying than in his growth and influence as an artist, the pic has a propulsive narrative drive.

“What kind of grown-ass man calls himself Puffy?”

Ugh, we’d love to support “Notorious,” the biopic of Christopher “Biggie” Wallace, aka dearly departed Brooklyn rapper Notorious B.I.G, but we’re not sure this film, directed by George Tillman Jr. is going to cut it. Well, at least not by looking at his new trailer that kind of makes us wince. All the cliches are there: Puff Daddy (Derek Luke) and Biggie (Jamal Woolard) trying to take back the East Coast (Biggs: “Maybe in the right hands [beat]… I could be on of the greatest.”), Mrs.

Fox Searchlight is trying to be as inclusive as possible with their upcoming Notorious B.I.G. biopic. They’ve come up with three different posters for the film, “Notorious” and are asking you the audience which one you think is the best. Honestly, we like the one on the left the best with the on on the right as close second, but the one in the middle has go to go. It’s interesting to note who gets top billing.

Brooklyn rapper Gravy, aka Jamal Woolard, plays slain rapper, the Notorious B.I.G. (aka Christopher “Biggie Smalls” Wallace), Derek Luke (David Mamet’s “Spartan“) is Sean ‘Puff Daddy, Diddy’ Combs, the BadBoy impresario and record executive who helped launch Biggie’s career with 1994’s classic debut Ready To Die. Angela Bassett plays Big’s moms Voletta Wallace the young thespian heavyweight Anthony Mackie (“Half Nelson”) plays his West Coast rival Tupac Shakur.

“Notorious” producer Wayne Barrows, the former manager of the Notorious B.I.G. (aka Christopher Wallace) has a blog for updates on the hip-hop biopic. They’ve posted another video diary of the film which isn’t exactly exciting, but it’s something. And they let you know they shot in on location in New York and Brooklyn! How about that? [Congratulations?] Is it just us or does Jamal Woolard/Gravy look a little too thin to be playing Biggie? Someone’s gotta feed that kid some extra burgers.
