Way back in February 2023, we first learned that acclaimed filmmaker Trey Edward Shults would be writing and directing a new film that would star The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye. Since then, however, we haven’t heard much about it. Well, now we officially know the title, “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” and the studio that will distribute it.

According to Lionsgate, the studio has picked up the rights to Trey Edward Shults new film, “Hurry Up Tomorrow.” The film is described as an extension of the highly anticipated album of the same title by The Weeknd.

It appears the acting bug has bitten The Weeknd quite hard. Not only is he co-starring in the upcoming HBO series, “The Idol,” which is set to debut later this year, but apparently, he’s been secretly cooking up his feature film debut with director Trey Edward Shults in an untitled film.

For a while, it seemed like the primary legacy of Trey Edward Shults’ “It Comes at Night” would be its CinemaScore rating – one of the notorious handful of D’s handed out by the survey organization, which polls opening weekend audiences for their reactions to new releases. (Back when we went to the theaters to see movies? You remember.) A low Cinemascore grade is usually less about the quality of the motion picture than how accurately the films were marketed; ads for “It Comes at Night” promised a jump-scare fright-fest, and instead, audiences got a grim chamber piece about certain death.

TELLURIDE – Despite the South Florida setting, the “Waves” that are referred to in the title of Trey Edward Shults new drama are in no way the literal kind. In production notes provided to the press, the filmmaker best known for the indie darling “Krisha” says his film “exudes an ebb and flow resembling how I think life truly feels at times.” O.K., that is a bit of an obvious observation for an adult to make but we’ll admit it can be a jarring life lesson for a teenager.
