Opinions of Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” normally fall into one of two camps. The first camp, which is the seeming majority of people, despise the film and don’t even acknowledge the project’s connection to the “Alien” franchise. The other camp (which I find myself in) is entertained by Scott’s film and recognizes it has interesting ideas but doesn’t really qualify as an ‘Alien’ film. That being said, if you dug “Prometheus,” you’re probably going to be intrigued by “Raised by Wolves.”

Harking back to the type of nationalistic war films that dominated screens during the Reagan era, Kriv Stenders’ film “Danger Close” is a stirring tribute to the soldiers from Australia and New Zealand that gave their lives in the largely forgotten Battle of Long Tan. Yet, despite these noble intentions, the film is unfortunately flat and by-the-numbers, as it tracks an impossible battle between a severely outnumbered company (108 soldiers) against an overwhelming enemy (2500 Viet Cong).

There are very few directors that can claim that they revolutionized a genre. But one could argue that John McTiernan is one of those people. In a matter of a decade, the filmmaker helmed “Predator,” “Die Hard,” “Last Action Hero” (underrated), and “Die Hard with a Vengeance” (the only decent sequel). Not to mention sandwiched in between those was “The Hunt for Red October.”

All things considered, McTiernan had a run in the ‘80s and ‘90s that set the stage for the action genre moving forward.
