“Small Axe: Lover’s Rock” and “Top Boy” breakout Micheal Ward is set to star alongside Olivia Colman in the new Sam Mendes-directed feature “Empire of Light,” Deadline reports. Produced by Searchlight, the film will mark Mendes’ first film since the one-take World War One drama “1917” and also marks his first solo script as a writer.

“Top Boy” is one of those crime series that was huge for people who actually watched it. If you know, then you know. And by those who knowit, I mean the folks in the UK that enjoy gritty crime dramas. But for those of us not in the UK, we likely missed “Top Boy” when it aired over five years ago. If you live outside of the UK, you’re probably not familiar with the British TV series “Top Boy.” However, Netflix is hoping that changes soon. The streaming company has purchased the rights to the series that ran for two seasons beginning in 2011, and is hoping that fans are going to rediscover in time for the upcoming third outing.

“Top Boy” follows the life of a group of young people caught up with a life of crime in their London neighborhood.
