Marvel Studios and Disney finally debuted their long-awaited solo “Black Widow” movie a full decade after original plans at Lionsgate with former director David Hayter dissolved, and company infighting led to even more delays despite having Scarlett Johansson under an extensive contract after joining the cast of “Iron Man 2.”

In Theaters: ‘Robin Hood,’ Just Wright,’ ‘Looking For Eric’

Funny little line-up this week with “Robin Hood” opening against a couple of female-skewing romantic releases. A Ridley Scott/Russell Crowe action film should be a bonafide summer smash, but audiences seem more interested in Tony Stark’s grandstanding than Crowe’s brooding these days and the reviews are very mixed. The sports themed romance “Just Wright” should do modest business alongside “Letters to Juliet” this week. On the limited front, a favorite from Cannes last year, “Looking for Eric” opens in NYC and LA, along with the worthwhile documentary “Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo.” Here’s the rundown:

In Wide Release: The lastest from team Scott/Crowe made its splashy, star-studded premiere on the Cannes red carpet earlier this week but despite all the glitz and glamor it remains to be seen if audiences are in the mood for a serious, epic and long (two and half hours plus) journey through Sherwood Forest.

Sam Rockwell Sheds Light On His Justin Hammer Character In ‘Iron Man 2’

Now that we’ve lamented the death of cinema, let’s go to something more fuuuuuun! Like “Iron Man 2,” for example. MTV spoke to Sam Rockwell for the umpteenth time and this time actually got some details from him suggesting that the Justin Hammer character he plays will be different from the character in the comics. So we’re told anyhow.

“My character is the brains, not the brawn,” Rockwell said of his character. “They wanted to go with a rival for Tony Stark who is closer to his age, and make him American.”

In the comics, Hammer is apparently white-haired and elderly.

Sam Rockwell Confirms ‘Iron Man 2’ Appearance; Admits He Was Once Up For Tony Stark Lead

It’s true and confirmed. Sam Rockwell will appear in “Iron Man 2” as previously discussed. Geeks will rejoice and folks like us are happy that the franchise seems to be committed to keeping strong actors aboard to help suspend the disbelief and make these films tolerable, or even enjoyable in the case of “Iron Man” the original.

Rockwell told MTV he accepted the part and was briefly considered for Robert Downey Jr.’s lead character Tony Stark at one point.

Confirmed: No Samuel L. Jackson As Nick Fury, Ghostface Killah or Hilary Swank In ‘Iron Man’?

So, we saw “Iron Man,” this weekend and before we write a proper review we wanted to note a few cameos that were supposed to be in the film that went M.I.A. (and were likely left on the cutting room floor.)

It’s not as important to us, but to the superhero movie-going geek populace, it’s surely big news to note that the rumored (and then confirmed) cameo of Samuel L. Jackson as S.H.I.E.L.D’s Nick Fury was notably absent from the final cut.
