If you’re Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín, known for “Jackie” and “Neruda,” you get such a privilege, and or the stars just seem to align that way because of the pandemic. Earlier this summer, AppleTV+ released the adaption of Stephen King’s “Lisey’s Story,” which Larrain directed and then in August, his last feature, “Ema” co-starring Gael Garcia Bernal, was finally released theatrically in the U.S.

American actress Kristen Stewart has been returning to the world of awards caliber filmmaking with her upcoming movie “Spencer” focused on the iconic Princess Diana, the British royal that was beloved by the public but her life was cut short in 1997 when the tabloids’ obsession got her killed, leaving behind her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

Well, Neon Films have broken the internet today with the first look at Kristen Stewart in “Spencer.” “Spencer” is, of course, about the late Diane, Princess of Wales (her full given name was Diana Frances Spencer), and heralded Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larrain directs it (“Jackie,” “No,” “Neruda.”)

We’ll be honest, we didn’t think “Spencer” would even begin production this year, and alas, it’s not on our 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2021 (guess who is fixing that asap?!), because Larrain was supposed to start and shoot an adaptation of Stephen King‘s “Lisey’s Story” starring Clive Owen and Julianne Moore for AppleTV+ first.

Back in 1992, Sally Potter was a pretty big deal. She had just released “Orlando” to universal acclaim, which featured an exquisite performance from Tilda Swinton as the titular nobleman who moved through centuries of British history without aging. It was an ambitious film that put Potter on the map and gave us hope that she might be the next important voice in indie cinema. However, with every ensuing movie she made (“The Tango Lesson,” “The Man Who Cried,” “Yes,” “Rage,” “Ginger & Rosa“) it felt like she had hit her peek too early.
