Fight everyone in her way, of course. That’s the set up for Timo Tjahjanto‘s latest action flick, “The Shadow Strays.” Fresh off its world premiere in TIFF‘s Midnight Madness section, the Indonesian genre director’s new film premieres on Netflix later this month. And there’s a Toronto alum leading the charge there: Coralie Fargeat, whose sophomore feature (and Cannes favorite) “The Substance” will open the 10-feature section this year.

According to Variety, “Nobody 2” is set to begin production in August with Timo Tjahjanto as director. The only other information that is being reported is that Bob Odenkirk and Connie Nielsen will return to the cast.

Yet here we are, nine years later, and while the format certainly isn’t as ubiquitous as it was, this franchise has proven durable; “V/H/S/2” was, if anything, better than its predecessor. (We’ll politely skip “V/H/S/Viral” for now.) But the longevity of this Little Franchise That Could may have more to do with the nostalgia baked into its central technology than any trends in horror.

When “V/H/S/94” opens with the familiar ephemera of the analog video experience – the blue screen, the tracking lines, blocky “PLAY” text in the upper left corner – we lean in.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the original film, as it stands as one of the best zombie features of the past decade. The only reason to remake it, by Hollywood standards, is to make it English-language, which is enough to rile up purists that don’t think that’s a good enough cause. Well, James Wan is producing a new “Train to Busan” remake and he may convince you it’s a decent idea when you find out who he hired to direct the film.

While many of you probably know the filmmaker best for his recent action film, “The Night Comes for Us,” he also released a horror film in 2018 titled, “May the Devil Take You.” And while Raimi’s name is nowhere to be found on that film, or the upcoming sequel, “May the Devil Take You Too,” it’s clear that Tjahjanto is a fan of the filmmaker’s horror output.

If your name isn’t Timo Tjahjanto, chances are you didn’t have two top-notch genre films premiere on Netflix in the same year. The Indonesian director’s “The Night Comes for Us” wowed binge-watchers a few months ago with its “The Raid“-like fights and insane gore. Once viewers’ heart rates have finally slowed down, Tjahjanto returns with “May the Devil Take You” to ratchet your pulse back up again.

[AYT Podcast]" align="left" style="margin: 0 20px 20px 0;max-width:100%" />
Everything old is new again on this episode of Adjust Your Tracking. Joe and I cross generations of horror trends as we link John Carpenter‘s 1978 horror masterpiece, “Halloween,” starring Jamie Lee Curtis, with 2018’s pretty solid if not slightly overhyped but also surprisingly empathetic and thematically ambitious “Halloween” directed by David Gordon Green and starring Jamie Lee Curtis. If you’re still paying attention (audiences certainly were this past weekend at the box office), and not too confused by yet another sequel in this unkillable franchise—this one has an admittedly clever take in which all previous sequels have been ignored for a direct continuation 40 years later from the original—then sit back and listen in as we discuss what’s missing and refreshing, if anything, about this new one.

Making its debut at Fantastic Fest at the end of last month (September 22), four days later it was acquired by Netflix and five days ago (October 19, 2018) the action thriller was released on the streaming service worldwide with—as per usual with international affair—little fanfare, press, or promotion.
