If you’re a fan of box office stats, then we have a treat for you. As of last Friday, Peter Jackson’s World War I documentary, “They Shall Not Grow Old,” which is great, has outgrossed one of the biggest bombs of 2018, and other Jackson project, “Mortal Engines” at the domestic box office. You read that right. The massive sci-fi franchise-starter was beaten by 100-year-old archival footage.

We’re about ready to pack up from our snowy trip to the 2019 Sundance Film Festival which means we’re already beginning to feel the post-festival blues, especially as we’re thrust back into an infuriatingly dull Oscars season conversation (mention “Green Book” or “Bohemian Rhapsody” again and this writer may burst into hives). Peter Jackson is a man who needs little to no introduction being the master world builder that he is and the visionary filmmaker behind the “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. He also has managed to place himself at the forefront of cutting-edge technological filmmaking innovations such as his founding of special and visual effects company WETA, his work with performance capture, and his recent plunge into Augmented Reality Storytelling to name a few.
