The Zellner brothers are currently enjoying the fact that their sasquatch comedy (definitely a peculiar subgenre of film), “Sasquatch Sunset,” is in the middle of its theatrical run in the U.S. But that doesn’t mean they’re not planning what’s next. And what’s next, currently titled “Alpha Gang,” involves one of the best actors on the planet.

Jesse Eisenberg has been very particular with his choices as an actor in recent years. He always mixes bigger roles in high-profile films with appearances in quality indies. The Western genre has always been very male-dominated. However, the title of the upcoming film “Damsel” suggests that it might put a new twist on the genre. Mia Wasikowska and Robert Pattinson play 18th-century lovers with Wasikowska playing the supposed damsel in question. According to a review from our site, “Damsel” attempts to subvert the cliched “damsel in distress” archetype. The story depicts Samuel (Pattinson) pursuing his beloved Penelope (Wasikowska) because he suspects that she has been kidnapped.

PARK CITY – Four years ago David Zellner and Nathan Zellner (aka The Zellner Brothers) unveiled “Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter” at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. The imaginative drama earned strong reviews and two Independent Spirit Award nominations 10 months later including a Best Director recognition for David. Now, the siblings have returned to Sundance with a new creation, “Damsel,” that despite the efforts of Robert Pattinson and Mia Wasikowska will be hard pressed to earn the same reception.
