Oh hey! Yeah, we’re still doing 2009 stuff, deal with it.

Surely there’s worse movies out there, but often times we try and purposefully avoid the “The Love Guru’s” of the year (though admittedly in 2008, we did go out of our way to catch up on all the garbage, and boy did we regret it). In many cases, we just avoided as much trash as we could, but you know, you see so many films a year, you’re bound to see some dreck.

Weekend Box Office- Obscure ‘GI Jones’ Picture Ignores Critics, Hits Hard In Heartland

We missed this one at The Playlist, but Paramount was somehow able to get a major wide release for their esoteric-to-us toy-based adventure film and score $56.2 million at the box office, hitting number one in Sarah Palin’s Real America. Paramount was reticent to screen their esoteric-to-elites “The Adventures Of GI Jones And The Rise Of The Cobras” for critics and left the promotional push for flyover territories instead of major cities, and the results were pretty solid.

Weekend Box Office: Kiddie And Adult Fare Rule In Atypical Summer Period

The Jerry Bruckheimer brand sure knows hits. Dipping his toes into the kiddie world, he achieved another number one hit with “G-Force.” The 3D guinea pig action picture netted $32.2 million over the weekend, outpacing last weekend’s champ “Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince.” The boy wizard fell off a sharp 61% (gee, it must be Twitter’s/MySpace’s/Skype’s fault) but was still close behind with $30 million, bringing its two week total to $222 million domestic, with undoubtedly more overseas.

In Theaters: ‘The Ugly Truth,’ ‘G-Force’ & ‘In The Loop’

Welcome to the dog days of summer, where the deafening roar of rocket turbines and rat-a-tat-tat of Tommy guns have subsided and we find ourselves in relative quiet, for now. Only the squealing of guinea pigs and Katherine Heigl risk disturbing our summer reverie. In all seriousness, mainstream cineplex choices are particularly dire this weekend, but everyone needs a break sometimes, even Hollywood.

Will this one be the lowest grossing of the summer?

The Playlist’s Least Anticipated Films Of 2009

We wanted to subtitle this feature Cockpunching Your Brain Into Next Year: The Films Of 2009 Probably Destined To Make Us Unintentionally Laugh The Most. But you know, we mostly digress, but if you really want to see some of the year’s worst films look no further than what’s coming out this month in January: The year’s dumping ground for unwanted films (and in some cases February, too). Things like “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” “Outlander,” “Bride Wars,” “Unborn,” “My Bloody Valentine 3-D” all look abysmal and the horror ones in particular look just one step above straight-to-video quality, but you won’t find them on this list because they’ll be out in a week or two, will be discussed or are just too fucking godawful to spend even a sentence on.
