In the peak TV era, much of the attention has gone to the drama shows — the dark, morally complex, violence-filled series like “The Sopranos,” “The Wire,” “Game Of Thrones,” “Fargo” and many more. But that’s only half the story. While they might not fuel thinkpieces and fan theories in the same way, we’re in a golden age of small-screen comedy, as this month has demonstrated: the excellent “Master Of None” and “I Love Dick,” and the wonderful “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” have all recently landed.

He revealed last year that, in a departure from his first film, he was working on a visually-driven “slapstick comedy,” inspired by the likes of Buster Keaton and Peter Bogdanovich’s “What’s Up Doc?” and the project was officially announced yesterday by BBC Films at Cannes.

More and more indies are doing that same-day 360-style debut pioneered by Mark Burnett, Steve Soderbergh and Magnolia Pictures (many thought this “changed the rules” of feature film releases; but granted, this release doesn’t include DVD).
